Frequently Asked Questions
Is Electrolysis Permanent?
YES!! Electrolysis is the only FDA and AMA approved permanent hair removal method. By destroying the bottom 2/3 of the hair follicle, we eliminate the ability for hair growth to continue. Only electrolysis provides both hair removal and hair elimination

Will there be side effects on my skin?
Immediately following treatment, you may experience some temporary redness or tenderness. This varies with each individual. Use of a cold pack can reduce these side effects. The Apilus Epilators have made electrolysis more comfortable and
effective than ever before.

What area or hair types can be treated?
Unlike laser hair removal methods, all hair types and colors can be permanently removed with Electrolysis. Electrolysis works on most areas of the body to give you permanently smooth, sleek, healthy looking skin. No other solution can claim such success.
Electrolysis is the only method recognized by the FDA and AMA as permanent hair removal. Laser only provides hair reduction, not permanent hair removal.
Melanin in the hair absorbs energy from the laser, creating heat which damages the hair follicle. Light, blonde, red, white, gray hair, and dark skin are more challenging for laser treatment making electrolysis a more effective permanent hair removal method.

What should I do before and after treatment?
Prior to your appointment, you should let the hair in the area that you would like treated to be long enough for us to remove with tweezers. You can shave or cut the area with scissors if needed but make sure the hairs are long enough for us to treat and remove the day of the treatment.
Prior to treatment, you should avoid the use of alcohol and caffeine as the treatment is much more comfortable for you if you are well hydrated. So, drink plenty of water the day before and the day of the treatment.
If you are typically more sensitive or irritable when you are on or near your menstrual cycle, avoid scheduling your appointments during that time.
After treatment, you should avoid the sun or tanning beds for 24 hours, No makeup on the treated area for 24 hours, no swimming or hot tub for 24 hours, keep the area clean with a mild astringent such as witch hazel. A cold pack can be used for redness or edema if needed.
Am I a good candidate for Electrolysis?
All skin types and hair colors, types and textures are a good candidate for electrolysis. But, if you have a Cochlear implant, deep brain stimulation, pacemaker, Hepatitis, defibrillator, cancer, heart issues, are pregnant, breast feeding or are currently in puberty we are unable to offer electrolysis services.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first appointment will be the consultation. Allow approximately one hour for this appointment. We will go over all of your questions and I will explain the entire process. Once we have explained everything, we will use the remainder of the hour for a short treatment on the area that you are interested in working on. This will allow us the opportunity to see how well you and your skin tolerate this process. The hairs in the area to be worked in need to be at least long enough for me to be able to grab with the tweezers. You also need to be sure you are well hydrated prior to your appointment.
